Diagnostic performance of high-resolution ultrasound in pre- and postoperative evaluation of the hand tendons injuries

Abstract Background Hand tendon injuries are recognized clinical entities that frequently seen. Clinical examinations usually warrant radiological correlative studies for confirmation and as a postoperative screening test. Here is prospective observational cohort study enrolling 30 patients who were diagnosed clinically to have hand either pre- or postoperative; their ages ranging from 5 64 years with mean ± SD of 31.43 12.19 years; 23 male (76.7%) 7 female (23.3%) evaluated by high-resolution ultrasound examination evaluation was done intra-operative assessment MRI gold standards. Results High-resolution (HRUS) findings binned into seventeen cases (56%) had tears, which 10 (33.3%) complete tear partial tear. Postoperative integrity present in 13 (43.3%), callus found 2 (6.66%), abnormal motion on the dynamic 15 (50%). Intra-tendinous foreign bodies detected two gap between torn ends (33.3%), re-tear (rupture) repaired tendons four (13.3%). Coexistent nerve seen (6.66%); forementioned findings, HRUS gained high accuracy measures correlated standards (100% sensitivity 100% specificity). Conclusion serves highly accurate potential diagnostic modality preoperative follow-up.
